As The Journalist reported, in Bila Tserkva 1 ton of hazardous chemicals spilled into the Ros River, resulted in all living things dead, with the city left without water.
According to the National Police, the pollution of the reservoir in Vinnytsia oblast was due to the ingress of herbicides stolen from the agricultural enterprises in two districts of Vinnytsia oblast.
“The Mercedes Sprinter got off the road into the water and turned over. There was a car fire further localized by rescuers. The car was risen to the surface with no plates, as well as the canisters with chemicals”, the head office reported.
The chemicals were identified to have been stolen from the farms of Kazatyn and Lypovets areas.
“As a result of the car fire, there was a depressurization of chemical containers and a certain amount of the substance burned out or got into the reservoir”, the message says.
The fact of pollution of the reservoir (the Ros river tributary) a criminal case was opened under part 1 of article 242 (violation of water protection rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It provides for up to 5 years imprisonment.
In addition, criminal cases under part 3 and part 5 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft) were opened on the theft of herbicides, providing for 7 – 12 year imprisonment with confiscation of property.
