New York City has shut down subways for the first time in 115 years: employing workers to disinfect in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, CNN reports.

“Extraordinary times require an extraordinary response,” said Patrick Foy, head of the city’s transport department.

Disinfecting will be carried out every night, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. in the morning. The metro transport department has launched several hundred buses on night routes to transport metro workers.
