January 13, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy gathered the Cabinet of Ministers, representatives of the NKREKP, the head of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and experts in the field of economics, electricity and gas energy at an energy meeting to resolve the issue of overpriced gas prices for Ukrainians, the press service of the Office of the President reported.

After a lengthy discussion, a decision was made to reduce the gas price below market. This means a decrease in the price in payments by more than 30%.

According to Acting Energy Minister Yuriy Vitrenko, this decision should be introduced and will be fully operational since February.

“That is, from February 1, all Ukrainian consumers will pay significantly less for natural gas. I can say that, according to our data, the average gas price in Ukraine in January was higher than UAH 9,600. Accordingly, the price will be reduced on average for the population of Ukraine to UAH 6,999,” said Vitrenko.

“Besides, there are a number of decisions on gas distribution prices – the so-called monthly fee. We also worked on this with the relevant committee, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada – we will ask for the adoption of the relevant bill and the reduction of prices in the field of gas distribution and the reduction of this monthly fee,” added Denys Shmyhal.

At the same time, the President noted that “restrictions on the tariff scale are the ideology of only quarantine measures.”
