MIT scientists believe that global warming by the end of the XXI century will lead to a change in the color of the oceans. About this reports BBC.

This phenomenon is associated with a change in the amount of phytoplankton in waters. It is noted that algae absorb and reflect light, and due to the warming of the oceans, their number will decrease. It is predicted that by 2100 the change in the color of the waters of the oceans will be about 50%. Since chlorophyll in phytoplankton gives the ocean a greenish tint, the water will turn bluer by the end of the century.
Researchers say that this phenomenon will be one of the first visible manifestations of the fact that human activity has led to a change in the ecology of the ocean.
