The people’s deputies candidate, Oleksandr Popov, has stated on the air of the Vlasny Dosvid (Own Expirience) TV program about his decision to run for the elections to the parliament of next convocation, as he had long professional experience of implementing important decisions in the country’s life.

“People with experience in a certain sphere should be either close to the authorities or to the political structures, for example, within the Verkhovna Rada. Today there is a tendency to get young people involved in all spheres. It is a great and proper decision, but, if this tendency is not combined with experience, then, I think, our country will be facing the same problems for a long time,” the former KCSA head, Oleksandr Popov, is convinced.

Besides his extensive experience as a city mayor, Oleksandr Popov is a recognized expert in the housing and communal services area. He held the post of the Minister for Housing and Public Utilities twice. According to the politician, the current situation with the tariffs requires a solution aimed at reducing the financial burden on citizens and optimizing the system as a whole.

“At the time we have optimized this system once. For example, in the 2010s there were certain subsidized periods for the housing and utilities sector, and in 2013, with almost the same tariffs, we reached almost 100% profitability in this sector. In my opinion, it was a coordinated work of our part and that of the government. We realized that the income and expenses of any family should be balanced. Now, if a consumer has not paid for the housing and communal services, his penalties are accumulating; in due time we did quite the opposite, supporting those who pay in time. If a consumer pays in time, he will have a tariff reduction. Thus, we encourage consumers to pay utility bills on time,” Oleksandr Popov explained.

To Oleksandr Popov, the statement that ‘the tariffs cannot be reduced’ is erroneous: in real life, the cost of housing and communal services for the population should be 25-30% lower.

“I think there are some corruption points affecting the current processes. I am very sorry about it. Moreover, the Western partners give us the opportunity for real changes in this area. As for the issue of energy dependence, it should be either on Russia, or on any other country. Our country has resources and potential, which is used only by 2% today. I consider the bills and decisions able to change the situation with the own [Ukraine’s] production of energy resources and tariff policy in Ukraine as one of my tasks at the parliament,” Oleksandr Popov, the MP candidate in a constituency #212, said.
