Almost half of population of Ukraine does not consider themselves to be Europeans

Almost half of Ukrainian citizens surveyed stated that they are definitely not Europeans or rather are not Europeans.
This is evidenced by the results of a nationwide sociological survey of Ukraine’s population conducted by the Democratic initiative named after Ilka Kucheriva and the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology with the support of European Union project «Public Synergy».

In particular, among the respondents, 27.9% of respondents answered that they do not consider themselves to be Europeans, and 20.5% do not consider themselves to be European.
At the same time, 29% believe that they consider themselves to be Europeans, and 15% consider themselves to be Europeans.

Also, sociologists asked the respondents to answer question what is needed in order to feel themselves Europeans.
Thus, 45.9% believe that this requires a certain level of material well-being, 33.9% feel protected by law, 21.2% respect the values of democracy and human rights, 17.4% feel free, 15% – nothing is needed, Ukrainians are already Europeans, 5.4% could not answer.
