The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, in his article for the Dzerkalo Tuzhdnya publication, said that the dynamic economic growth of his country over several years would have been lower without Ukrainian citizens employed in Poland.

“We also remember the citizens of Ukraine living and working in Poland. They are an important entity, without which the dynamic economic growth recorded in our country for several years in a row would have been much lower. Today, Ukrainians in Poland do not have to worry about the legal status of their stay on Polish territory. The documents, which expired during the period of the epidemic or the state of emergency, were extended up to 30 days after it ended in Poland,” Morawiecki emphasized.

According to him, today about a million citizens of Ukraine live in Poland, and, according to Ukrainian data, 175,000 Ukrainians decided to return to their homeland in connection with the pandemic.

“Those who stayed in Poland often continue to work and transfer money to their families in Ukraine. According to the World Bank, the amount of money transferred to Ukraine in 2019 reached USD 16 billion. A significant part of this amount came from Poland. In this regard, my government ordered Polish consulates in Ukraine to resume accepting work visa applications. Thousands of Ukrainian citizens will be able to resume work in Poland,” the Prime Minister of Poland said.

Morawiecki is convinced that Poland and Ukraine quickly made difficult decisions in the fight against the pandemic, including through the introduction of restrictions that change the daily life of citizens.

“Thanks to them the number of confirmed cases of infection, the number of hospitalized persons and the saddest statistics – the number of deaths – remain low in our states,” the Prime Minister added.
