President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the head of the Poltava Regional State Administration Oleh Synehubiv got acquainted with the project of reconstruction of the runway of Poltava regional utility company “Airport-Poltava”, the press service of the Regional State Administration informs.
The head of state was presented with a plan for the development and restoration of regular flights at the Poltava Airport. Acting Director General of the company Volodymyr Okara has said that in 2019 the airport served flights to Sharm el-Sheikh and Antalya. Each flight had a 100% passenger load.
The main issue is the reconstruction of the runway. It needs to be covered with two layers of asphalt concrete with geogrids. The length of the runway allows to receive Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
“Now we have restrictions on frequency and bandwidth and can only receive one Boeing aircraft per day. The length of the runway is 2,550 m, the width is 42 m. For the full functioning of our enterprise, the opening of domestic and international flights, we need to design and reconstruct the runway, install a lighting system, an aircraft landing system, reconstruct the perimeters of the fence, purchase a fire transport, a de-ice agent for anti-ice treatment,” Okara said.
In his turn, the President noted that Poltava Airport should be fully operational.
“We will definitely include Poltava Airport in the second part of the Big Construction program, where there will be airports in all important points of Ukraine. We will start building the airport in 2021. I am sure we will build all the airports that the state needs in 2 to 3 years. Poltava Airport terminal is new, but the runway needs reconstruction. It is very important to build it according to all international standards. Design and estimate documentation should be developed by the beginning of 2021. As soon as weather conditions will facilitate the construction, we will start work. An international airport will operate in the Poltava region,” Zelensky said.
In addition, Synehubiv noted that the regional budget will finance the development of design estimates.
“There should be an airport in the Poltava region. I have no doubt about it, because it is mean investment, tourism, economic development and prestige. This is not only passenger transportation, but also an opportunity to turn Poltava into a transport hub. Here is the maximum proximity to the M-03 highway, railway and to the regional center. The opening of domestic flights to Odesa, Lviv, Uzhhorod, Kherson, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, as well as the opening and resumption of international flights to Belarus, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Czech Republic, Baltic countries, Turkey, Egypt, Thailand, Dominican Republic and others will become a reality. We will initiate the development of design and estimate documentation to start the reconstruction of the runway,” the head of the Poltava Regional State Administration said.
It is necessary to allocate UAH 425 million for the design and reconstruction of the runway.
