The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko handed over the note on the termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the press service of the Head of State reported.
«The President handed over a note on Ukraine’s decision not to extend the operation of the Treaty of Friendship with Russia. Our note will be distributed as an official document of General Assembly and UN Security Council,» – the report said.
At the same time, during the meeting of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Poroshenko and Guterres also discussed in detail the latest developments in Donbas and the prospects for the deployment of a peacekeeping mission under the auspices of the United Nations in the east of Ukraine.
A special attention was paid to the aggressive actions made by the Russian side in the area of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait.
The parties also agreed to coordinate efforts in order to speed up the process of releasing Ukrainian political prisoners from Russian prisons.
As The Journalist reported, number of countries ready to send peacekeepers to Donbas were named.
