President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree “On the appointment of scholarships of the President of Ukraine to the children of journalists who died in connection with the performance of professional duties.”

According to the press service of the head of state, the scholarship was appointed to Ustina Gurnyak, born in 2012, whose father, photojournalist Viktor Gurnyak, died on October 19, 2014 from a mortar shell, when he taken out wounded soldiers in the area of ​​the 32nd checkpoint near the village of Smeloye, Slavyanoserbsky raion, Luhansk oblast.

Also, the scholarship was appointed to Olena Chernikova, born in 2014, the daughter of journalist Oleksandr Chernikov, who died on January 22, 2015 in a battle near Avdiyivka. Oleksandr worked as a video operator on the Dnipro “Channel 9”, as well as in other Dnipro city media.

As The Journalist reported, the government will support the young Ukrainian scientists with scholarships in amount of UAH 3,500.
