President creates and heads Counter COVID-19 Coordinating Council

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has set up the Counter COVID-19 Coordination Councilt.

The corresponding decree No.88/2020 was published on the website of the head of state.

“To establish the Counter COVID-19 Coordination Council as an advisory body under the President of Ukraine, tasked to monitor the situation and develop proposals for implementing effective measures aimed at countering the spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine,” the document says.

The Coordination Council is created given that the spread of this acute respiratory disease poses a threat to personal, public and state security, causes severe socio-economic and demographic consequences, with the aim of strengthening the protection of the population, urgent measures to counteract the spread of this disease.

The Coordination Council has the right to receive information, documents and materials from governmental bodies and local governments, enterprises, institutions, organizations, as well as invite representatives of ministries and other central and local executive authorities to meetings and hear information.

The Coordination Council includes Volodymyr Zelensky (Chairman of the Coordination Council); Arsen Avakov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine; Oleksiy Danyliv, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine; Victor Liashko, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Denys Shmygal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and others.

As The Journalist reported, Ukraine closed its border for foreigners for two weeks.
