The Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Maryna Lazebna in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine has said that today the real cost of living in Ukraine is UAH 4,200 – UAH 4,300.
According to her, revising approaches to determining the real cost of living is a requirement of time.
“We must finally tell people what the real cost of living is, because today it is actually depicts a level of survival, not living. Sometimes you are surprised when you see a set of products and goods included in it, and it became difficult to tie it with a person’s worthy life. Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to change approaches to the scope of its application,” Lazebna said.
She emphasized that payments, fines and allowances are tied to the cost of living, and in this regard Ukraine is being stalemated. Due to the artificially created low cost of living, the government cannot effectively manage social standards.
Together with the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the ministry is working to change the formula for determining the cost of living.
Lazebna advocates the regulatory and structural method to determine food costs for the living wage, and its share.
