President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the law #200-IX amending certain laws on road safety management, adopted by the Parliament on October 17.

The document is aimed to implement the provisions of the European directives on Road Safety Audits (RSAs), the press service of the head of state noted.

The explanatory note says that according to the World Health Organization, Ukraine’s roads are one of the most dangerous for road participants: the risk of injury or even death on Ukrainian roads is 5-6 times higher than in European countries.

Thus, the law introduces amendments to the laws of Ukraine on road traffic and on motor roads, which introduce the concept of “economic losses due to the death or injury of people as a result of traffic accidents”.

The document also introduces RSAs at the stage of motor road design and after commissioning and verification of road safety during operation. The law provides RSAs will be obligatory on international and national motor roads.

“Implementation of the law will improve road safety, reduce the accident rate and the severity of the consequences of accidents, and will also contribute to the integration of Ukrainian public roads into the international road network with a high level of infrastructure security,” the President’s Office said.
