The second package of US sanctions against Russia linked to the ‘Skripal Case’ came into force on August 26. It will be valid for at least one year, the Interfax-Ukraine reported.

The first package of sanctions against the Russian Federation for non-compliance with the US Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act have been imposed a year ago. The implemented second package stipulates:

  • US to oppose granting loans or other financial and technical assistance to Russia from international financial organizations such as the World Bank and IMF;
  • Tightening of licensing sale a number of goods and technologies to the Russian Federation;
  • Ban on American banks to participate in the primary market of Russian currency sovereign debt and issuing loans to the government of the Russian Federation.

The new restrictive measures do not affect Russian state-owned companies, as well as the secondary market for sovereign debt not denominated in rubles (restrictions do not apply to debt in Russian currency).

As The Journalist reported, US will introduce additional sanctions against Russia.
