Several more countries supported EU sanctions against Belarus

Six candidate countries and members of the European Economic Area joined the sanctions against Belarus, which were imposed on December 17, 2020. This was published on the website of the European Council.

The Declaration of the EU High Representative on behalf of the entire European Union speaks about the accession of some third countries to this decision. The Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania, as well as the countries of the European Free Trade Area Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, have joined the decision of the EU Council to impose sanctions against Belarus.

To decision published in the Official Journal of the EU, the EU imposed sanctions against key officials of the regime of Alexander Lukashenko and the institutions that support him for the brutal suppression of peaceful protests in Belarus.
