In Washington, foreign ministers of a group of seven countries signed a joint statement regarding the political situation in Syria. Politicians stressed that the current situation can be resolved only through political means, without the use of weapons. This was announced by the US State Department as a result of the meeting on Wednesday in the US capital, reports Ukrinform.
"There is no military solution to the conflict in Syria, just as there is no alternative to a political solution, so there is a general need for diplomatic efforts, as well as international political will to end the Syrian conflict and alleviate the long-term suffering of the Syrian people," the report said.
The signatories to the agreement stressed that all efforts should be focused on resolving the conflict through political means, according to UN Security Council Resolution on Syria No. 2254.
The statement after the meeting in Washington was signed by the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
