Speaker of Senate of Poland visits Ukraine to commemorate legionnaires died in battle of Kostiuchnówka

Speaker of the Senate of Poland Stanisław Karczewski paid a visit to Ukraine to participate in celebrations dedicated to the Battle of Kostiuchnówka that took place in July 1916.

According to the Polske Radio, Karczewski will take part in commemoration ceremony at the Polish military cemetery. Senators Grazhina Stark, Ryszard Bonislawsky and Andrzej Payonk will also come to Ukraine.

Tonight, on August 16, the Senate speaker will meet with Polish scouts to light candles and pray at the Polish military cemetery, where the legionnaires died during the Battle of Kostiuchnówka buried.

On August 17, Karczewski will also visit villages of Vovchitsk, Kukly, Yablonki and Manevichi, where he will take part in celebrations and meet with local authorities.

Recall that the battle of Kostiuchnówka took place on July 4-6, 1916 near the Ukrainian village of Kostiuchnówka (Manevichi district of the Volyn Oblast). It was a major clash between the Russian Army and the Polish Legions (part of the Austro-Hungarian Army) during the opening phase of the Brusilov Offensive.

As The Journalist reported, Zelensky will visit Poland on Sept. 1 to take part in ceremonies dedicated to the 80th anniversary of WWII beginning.
