Turkey intends to send a spacecraft to the moon by 2023, which will land on the Earth’s satellite. Head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this, Sabah reports.

“Our main and most important goal under the National Space Program is to reach the Moon for the first time on the centenary of the founding of our Republic. I believe that our engineers will cope with the landing on the moon,” Erdogan said.

After that, the Turkish leader noted that the plans include the construction of a cosmodrome within the framework of international cooperation.

The ultimate goal of the program is to send a Turkish citizen into space.

Erdogan added that Ankara is going to launch new satellites for military and civil needs and develop a satellite navigation system, develop the space industry and train professional personnel for the space industry.
