Ukraine, Azerbaijan agreed to develop gas supplies from Central Asia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev have agreed on bilateral development of the Southern Gas Transport Corridor to supplied Europe with gas from Central Asia. This was reported by the presidential press service.

“Ukraine supports the Southern Gas Transport Corridor. We agreed to explore the possibility of expanding this project, which is important in terms of diversifying gas supplies to European consumers. We need to use the unique transit potential of our countries and develop the infrastructure to this end,” the report says.

The Southern Gas Transport Corridor supplies gas from the Caspian Sea basin to Southern Europe, bypassing Russia. The pipeline supply Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan gas. It passes through the territory of Turkey.

The development of Southern Gas Transport Corridor allow Ukraine to buy gas not only from Russia, but also from other countries.
