Later, on October 19, 1993, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a resolution “On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
“To establish the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a holiday in Ukraine, which is celebrated annually on December 6 on the day of adoption of the Law “On Armed Forces of Ukraine” by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 1991,” the document says.
The main task of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability.
