Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Taran, during a joint briefing with British Secretary of State for Defense Ben Wallace discussed strengthening Ukraine’s security and defense capabilities, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports.
“We have had fruitful and productive negotiations. The main focus was on the assessment of the security situation in the East of Ukraine and the Azov-Black Sea region, trends and prospects for its development and ways to respond to emerging threats. We discussed the state and prospects of implementing defense reform, Euro-Atlantic integration issues in the context of maximizing the use of new instruments of defense and military cooperation that Ukraine received expanded capabilities with the acquisition of NATO partner status. Also we highlighted the priorities of Ukrainian-British military cooperation, particularly the development of capabilities and increasing the combat potential of the Ukrainian Navy with the participation of Great Britain,” Taran said.
The head of the defense department of Ukraine also noted that all the issues discussed and the agreements reached are aimed at strengthening of Ukraine’s security and defense capabilities, increasing the operational and combat capabilities of her Armed Forces, ensuring peace and well-being of Ukrainian citizens.
