Ukraine improves steps to combat industrial pollution, reforms waste management system

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Abramovsky has said that among the priorities of the Ministry will be the fight against all kinds of industrial pollution, namely by the introduction of polluter pays principle and the implementation of Directive 2010/75 / EC.

According to the minister, it is necessary to reform the waste management system and to implement Directive 98/26 / EC.

“We are bringing Ukrainian legislation closer to European laws fast, and, by the end of the year, we plan to complete this process by adopting a framework law by the Verkhovna Rada. Already today we are developing sectoral bills to restore order in the field of waste management,” Abramovsky said.

Ukraine’s top priority is to reform and increase the effectiveness of state environmental control. First of all, by overcoming corruption in this area. The existing models of forestry, fisheries, natural resources management, including mineral resources, will also be reviewed.

The Minister emphasized the importance of digitalizing environmental services and processes, and emphasized that water shortage and water management remain an urgent issue.
