The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has said that the bill, approved by the government on December 18, initiated severe punishment for designedly unveracious reports on bomb threats.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated a number of amendments to the Criminal Code to reduce the number of false reports, to save resources of state authorities and to ensure the safety of citizens.

On December 18, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the draft law “On Amendments to Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on Strengthening Responsibility for Knowingly False Messages about a Threat to the Security of Citizens.”

According to Avakov, the changes provide for the attacker a mandatory additional penalty in the form of confiscation of property for fake threats of bombing.

In addition, Part 2 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine envisages severe criminal liability for a false report on mining: the imprisonment term increased for a period of four to eight years with confiscation of property.

Since the beginning of 2019, the police received 3,403 reports on bomb threats in 91,818 objects. For 5 months, investigators have launched a pre-trial investigation of about 600 such criminal offenses under Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As The Journalist reported, Avakov says Ukrainian police will patrol occupied territories.
