Ukrainian MPs propose raising the minimum age for selling tobacco products to 21 years, as well as introducing a number of other restrictions to reduce the distribution of cigarettes among youth.

This was stated by MP from the Servant of the People party, Lada Bulah, during еру presentation of a new anti-tobacco bill.

“This bill equally regulate and limit the sale of all types of cigarettes for people aged under 21. It was a difficult and controversial decision, but it would reduce the harm of tobacco products to children’s health with a probability of 100%. According to various European and American studies, 95% of adult smokers first tried cigarettes being aged under 21,” the parliamentarian said.

So, the bill provides for the introduction of unbranded identical packages of unattractive color for all types of cigarettes, an increase the size of images of medical warnings up to 65% of the total size of the pack. It also stipulates ban on street advertising of cigarettes, no laying out of cigarettes in supermarkets and stalls, a complete ban on tobacco advertising on the Internet and social networks.

Local authorities will be able to determine additional no smoking areas in public places. At the same time, the list of public places where smoking is completely prohibited will be expanded: train stations, hostels, offices and workplaces will be listed there.

In addition, the bill completely prohibits the circulation of flavored cigarettes.

Among the authors of the bill are deputies from the “Servants of the People”, “Batkivshyna” and “Opposition Platform — For Life”.
