Specialists of the Space Research and Communications Center (Zolochiv Town, Lviv Oblast) have already completed the first stage of modernization of Europe’s largest radio telescope MARK-4B, which is 32-meter high. This was reported by the local publication “Dilo”.

The Space Research center in Zolochev has two powerful antennas that were built back in Soviet times. In 2017, the Center officially entered the State Space Agency of Ukraine and the National Center for Space Facilities Management and Testing.

The Ukrainian military on a business trip will monitor the modernization works and engage in exploitation.

The 32-meter MARK-4B antenna near Zolochiv is more powerful than the Crimean 72-meter antenna, which was used before, since modern amplifiers and developments made by Ukrainian researchers and implemented in the antenna provide even greater opportunities.

The MARK-4B will be called the Radio Telescope-32. Now the rotary system and receivers are being restored, everything is in trial operation.

Europe has already expressed its interest in cooperation with the Ukrainian Space Research and Communications Center.

The rotation speed of the MARK-4B is 1 degree in 3 seconds; its surface utilization factor is about 75%. This is a high-precision multi-ton machine that can observe the stars at a distance of billions of kilometers.
