A new radio telescope RT-32, created in the process of research modernization of the 32-meter MARK-4B antenna, has been commissioned in Ukraine. This was reported by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

A new radio telescope is located at the Center for Space Research and Communications in the city of Zolochiv, Lviv region.

Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine proposed the use of ground space communication stations with antennas of diameters 25 m (KTNA-200) and 32 m (МАRK-4В), which by that time were no longer used by the Concern for Radio Broadcasting, Radio Communication and Television (RRT).

In cooperation with the State Space Agency (SCA) of Ukraine, the National Center for Control and Testing of Space Facilities and the Concern of radio broadcasting, radio communication and television, as well as with the support of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and personally the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician Boris Paton, these ground space communication stations were transferred from the management sphere of the State Service Administration special communication and information protection of Ukraine in the field of control of the SCA of Ukraine, with their subsequent introduction into the National Center for Control and Testing of Space Facilities.

Space Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine together with the Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine and the National Center developed the Concept of using the means of the Space Communications Center in the interests of the exploration and use of outer space.

The expert assessments have shown that the most expedient, at the first stage of the transition of telecommunication antennas to the state of a radio telescope, is the modernization of the 32-meter antenna system MARK-4V.

The main feature of the RT-32 radio telescope is its multi-band and multi-channel capability.

Now the frequency selective device allows simultaneous observations in the 6 and 1.35 cm bands (C and K bands), and after the introduction of the 3 cm band (X band) receiving equipment, the telescope will be able to operate in three bands simultaneously: 6, 3 and 1.35 cm.

The range of scientific tasks of RT-32 is very wide: studies of active galactic nuclei, places of star formation, scintillations, solar radiation, pulsars. It is interesting to study in a wide range of fast radio bursts, afterglow of gamma-ray bursts and phenomena of the GW170817 type, when gravitational and electromagnetic waves of a very wide spectrum were generated simultaneously.
