The Ukrainian Armed Forces are ready to increase national contributions to NATO operations and be involved in planning the Alliance’s early crisis management operations, Defense Minister Andriy Taran said.

According to him, developing practical cooperation within the framework of the NATO Enhanced Opportunities Program, Ukraine seeks to increase its contribution to the activities of the Alliance and achieve the maximum level of compatibility.

“By joining NATO’s Enhanced Opportunities Program, we strive to broaden the horizons of our partnership with the Alliance, realizing that this is a ‘two-way street’: we have the best opportunities, but at the same time commitment to achieve common goals,” Taran said.

The Defense Minister assured that, even in the conditions of Russian aggression, Ukraine is and will be a reliable partner of the Alliance, which takes part in NATO-led operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

Taran also clarified that in 2021, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are planning to join Operation Marine Guard in the Mediterranean Sea with two Island-class patrol boats received from the United States as part of the security assistance package, and in 2023 to involve in the operation the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy, the frigate Getman Sahaidachny.

In addition, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the defense department is taking measures to send two representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the NATO Mission in Iraq in 2021.
