On September 30, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the 2020 action plan on the implementation of the Concept for Improving Public Information on the Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine for 2017-2020, the State Television and Radio Committee reports.

The draft plan was designed by the State Television and Radio Committee together with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.

“The purpose of the plan is to increase the level of support among Ukrainian citizens of the state policy in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration and the level of confidence in NATO as an institution that plays a key role in strengthening international security,” the message reads.

To explanatory note of the draft decree, Ukraine sees the problem of ensuring a stable public consensus around the strategy of Euro-Atlantic integration as quite difficult one. Public support for the Euro-Atlantic integration course is fragile due to inadequate awareness of NATO. In such a situation, the mass public consciousness is vulnerable to various manipulations, internal and external influences. The acuteness of the problem necessitates effective information support for the course of Ukraine’s integration into NATO.

“The plan, in particular, provides raising awareness on strengthening the defense capability of Ukraine with the support of NATO, reforming the security and defense sector on the examples of the implementation of NATO standards and principles, as well as on non-military cooperation between Ukraine and NATO. Among other things, it increase the level of understanding and trust on the part of young people in the fundamentals, principles, policies and activities of NATO, it is planned to hold a number of thematic events – lectures, lessons, disputes, competitions of creative works, information marathons, etc.” the State Television and Radio Committee said, adding that some of the events are designed for representatives of state authorities to improve communication in the direction of “Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine” and to counter disinformation aimed at discrediting NATO and undermining national security.
