Ukraine’s Parliament introduces ranks of Brigadier General and Commodore in AFU

On Thursday, the Verkhovna Rada in second reading and in general adopted bill No. 227 which introduces new military ranks for the highest officer corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The bill was supported by 291 lawmakers.

According to the document, the number of general ranks in the army remain unchanged, but the ranks itself will be renamed: now ranks of senior army officers include brigadier general (previously it was major general), major general (lieutenant general prev.), lieutenant general (colonel general prev.), and general (Ukraine army general prev.).

The number of senior naval ranks will increase from three to four and will now include commodore (previously it was rear admiral), rear admiral (vice admiral prev.), vice admiral (admiral prev.) and admiral.
