Ukraine to open new consulate in Romanian city of Sighetu Marmatiei

As part of his working visit to Romania, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba met with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Romania, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reports.

The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the Ukrainians in Romania for the preservation of Ukrainian national identity, culture and traditions and noted their invaluable assistance in promoting and protecting the interests of Ukraine abroad.

Kuleba also informed the Ukrainians of Romania about the decision to open a new consulate of Ukraine, taking into account the importance of Ukrainian-Romanian relations and the need to support the Ukrainian community of Romania.

“I have decided to open a consulate in the city of Sighetu Marmatsii. I know this is important, a key place for the Ukrainians in Romania. The new consulate will create access to high-quality services, as well as become a tool of better interaction with you to preserve our culture and strengthen relations between Ukraine and Romania,” the head of the Foreign Ministry said.

Kuleba invited representatives of the Ukrainian community in Romania to join the development of the new foreign policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Ukrainians abroad.

“Ukraine needs a new effective policy regarding Ukrainians abroad. Diasporas are changing, territorially expanding, new communities are being added. At the Foreign Ministry, we have begun work on a new policy that we can submit for consideration by the state leadership. I want not only the state to take part in its development, but also Ukrainians abroad. I invite a representative of your community to take part in its development together with the MFA team,” the minister said.

According to Kuleba, people who understand the problems and know how to solve them should enter the body for the development of a new policy regarding Ukrainians abroad.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented the chairman of the Union of Ukrainians of Romania Nicolae-Miroslav Petretchi, with the Order of Merit, third class from the president for his contribution to the preservation and development of the Ukrainian community.
