The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has agreed to launch a pilot project on introducing digital driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate instead of the usual ones.
According to the Cabinet’s press service, the relevant decree was adopted at a government meeting.
The digital driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate are in fact a digital image of a plastic driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate with a unique QR code. According to the approved resolution, the driver from his smartphone can show digital documents to the police officer, who, using special technical means, reads code and confirms received data with the data from the unified information system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As the government noted, this year, Ukrainians paid UAH 71 million of fines because they did not have driver’s ID or vehicle registration certificate with them.
To order the digital driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate, a citizen will only need to download the Unified State Web Portal of Electronic Services mobile app to a smartphone and undergo an electronic identification.
“Digital driver’s ID or vehicle registration certificate are automatically generated if all information is provided in the unified information system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is indicated in the driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate, including photographs (digitalized facial images) of the person to generate the digital driver’s ID,” the message said.
