Ukrainian army received batch of modernized T-72 battle tanks

The State Enterprise Kyiv Armored Plant handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine the last batch of six T-72 tanks, which were modernized in order to improve their combat and technical characteristics, Ukroboronprom reports.

The plant completed the delivery of tanks under a state contract with the Ministry of Defense. All tanks were transferred to the Armed Forces.

Modernization made it possible to increase security, mobility, fire capabilities and machine control. The plant’s specialists finalized the optics and stabilization system of the gun, and improved overall driving performance.

“One of the main features of the T-72 is its ability to fire “Kombat” high-precision guided missiles developed by the GKKB Luch. In addition, the T-72 battle tank has a new generation protection level, which is provided by modern elements of dynamic protection,” the report said.

Particular attention was paid to the sighting system and surveillance equipment – the tank received night-vision devices with modern third-generation optical converters and a night sight for firing guided missiles.

Also modernized T-72 got a set of digital radio and satellite navigation equipment that allows to communicate with infantry units, which is important for interaction on the battlefield. The chassis of the tank was also improved – the tracks were replaced with new ones with a rubberized treadmill, which allowed to increase the ride smoothness.
