The government is developing a National coronavirus vaccination plan, which is scheduled to be approved in the near future, said Prime Minister Denys Shmygal.

According to the head of government, the plan describes in detail how and in what order the vaccination will be carried out.

“We expect to start vaccinating doctors starting in February, with the first million doses of COVAX planned for March. Further, this number will grow on a monthly basis,” he noted.

The prime minister added that the National plan will also indicate which categories of citizens should receive the vaccine for free.

“First of all will be vaccinated doctors, military personnel and people who are at risk,” Shmygal stressed, noting that 4 million people will be able to get vaccinated thanks to the global COVAX initiative, since according to the agreements Ukraine will receive 8 million doses of vaccine.

“This is only the first part. We pledge money for the purchase of additional doses. A special fund for the purchase of vaccines has been created in the budget. This fund will be replenished, and we will buy necessary amount of vaccines,” Shmyhal emphasized.

The prime minister also noted that negotiations on purchase of additional doses of the vaccine are underway, at the level of the state leadership. The Ministry of Health is negotiating at the company level.
