The Health Ministry of Ukraine and the World Health Organization (WHO) signed a two-year Cooperation Agreement on the eve of November 5.

As noted in the Ministry of Health, this Agreement will allow to continue cooperation with WHO, expand access of the population to quality health services, develop and implement health financing strategies and reforms to achieve progress towards universal health coverage, improve access to essential drugs, vaccines, diagnostics and equipment for primary health care, strengthen the capacity of the state for emergency preparedness.

“The cooperation agreement provides a clear roadmap for our future cooperation. The financing provided by the Agreement is an important contribution to our joint efforts, since together with the constant technical support from WHO, especially at the regional level, this will significantly strengthen our capacity to implement changes,” the head of the Ministry of Health Maxim Stepanov said.

The minister assured that Ukraine will fulfill the obligations set forth in the agreement. At the same time, Stepanov noted that the fight against the pandemic cannot neutralize Ukraine’s goal in implementing an important health reform process.

“Our clear goal is to provide decent conditions for the provision of medical services for Ukrainians. Reform of medicine is our priority, in particular, we are talking about modernizing medicine, reducing corruption in this area and ensuring full protection,” the minister said, expressing gratitude for the inclusion of Ukraine in the list of priority countries in the WHO Special Initiative on Mental Health for 2019-2023 years.

In addition, WHO will continue to provide support to Ukraine in the fight against coronavirus disease.
