On March 30, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has dismissed a bill with amendments to the national budget for 2020, sending the draft to the relevant parliamentary committee for revision before another first reading attempt.

Some 223 people’s deputies voted for the adoption of the bill with the required minimum of 226 votes, and a total of 273 deputies voted for sending the document to the relevant parliamentary committee for revision before another first reading, and 240 MPs for reducing the time of preparation for first reading.

Introducing the draft law, the Prime Minister Denys Shmygal called the prepared document as “an emergency budget,” adding that its main priority is to fight against coronavirus.

“We have created an UAH 97 billion fund to fight against coronavirus – an extremely transparent tool aimed at supporting doctors, purchasing equipment, medicines, personal protective equipment,” the head of government said.

In addition, the bill provides for an increase in financing of the Pension Fund by UAH 31.6 billion from the state budget in order to ensure the payment of UAH 1,000 additional funds to pensioners whose pensions are less than UAH 5,000.
