Ukrainian Parliament calls on NATO, UN to condemn occupation of Crimea

The Verkhovna Rada appealed to the UN, the European Parliament, PACE, the parliamentary assemblies of the OSCE, NATO and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, parliaments and governments of the world to condemn the occupation of Crimea. Some 314 people’s deputies voted for, none against, 9 abstained.

Rada calls on international organizations:

– to condemn Russia’s actions against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine;

– to increase diplomatic and sanctions pressure on Russia until the complete cessation of aggression and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine;

– to continue the policy of non-recognition of attempts to annex Crimea and Sevastopol;

– to consolidate international cooperation to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including within the framework of the Crimean platform;

– to continue pressure on Russia as a state that violates international agreements, including the UN Charter and the General Declaration of Human Rights;

– use diplomatic and sanctions mechanisms to release all Ukrainian citizens illegally captured by Russia;

– to resist the militarization of Crimea;

– demand from Russia to stop aggressive actions in the Black Sea region;

– to demand from Russia to stop attempts to expand its jurisdiction over nuclear facilities in Crimea and Sevastopol;

– to condemn human rights violations by the occupation authorities;

– to demand from Russia to stop the forced transfer of illegally convicted citizens of Ukraine from Crimea and Sevastopol to places of detention on the territory of the Russian Federation;

– to condemn Russia’s actions to persecute views, thoughts and participation in peaceful assemblies, as well as violations of the right to freedom of conscience and religion in the temporarily occupied territories;

– to demand from Russia to immediately comply with the decision of the International Court of Justice on the violation by the Russian Federation of the conventions on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination and on combating the financing of terrorism, in particular, to cancel the ban on the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and provide access to education in the Ukrainian language;

– to demand from Russia to stop the deportation of the civilian population from Crimea and Sevastopol and the resettlement of Russian citizens to the occupied territories of Ukraine;

– demand from Russia to ensure unhindered access for human rights defenders to the occupied territories;

– apply all possible types of sanctions to individuals and legal entities and the authorities of the Russian Federation and the occupation authorities involved in the occupation policy in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine;

– to demand from Russia to immediately stop systemic violations of the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the case of conflict.
