The Ukrainian woodworking industry is on the verge of a complete stop and at the brink of bankruptcy due to the lack of a clear and transparent government strategy for its development.

This was stated by the Head of the Association of woodworking and logging enterprises in Western Ukraine, Ihor Sobolevsky, UNIAN informs.

“What can we see now in the woodworking industry is the complete lack of state funding, tax stagnation, and, what we have always said, the complete absence of any state program for its development,” noted Sobolevsky.

The expert is convinced of the necessary to establish a Ministry of Forestry in Ukraine, along with adoption of a legislative framework ensuring uniform and transparent rules in order to solve the problems in the woodworking industry. It is also necessary to introduce government support programs stimulating the production of furniture and joinery (end products), as well as fuel and energy materials.

In addition, the Head of the Association of woodworking and logging enterprises of Lviv Oblast Mykola Kogut has noted that due to the ineffective legislative regulation, the woodworking industry in Ukraine is on the verge of bankruptcy, and its prices are non-competitive.

As The Journalist reported, Ukraine’s government imposed an embargo on Russian cement and plywood.
