The Ukrainian Border Guard Service is ready to introduce a biometric visa regime with the Russian Federation, said Oleh Slobodyan, assistant to the head of the State Border Service.

At the same time, he stressed that he could not comment on the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin regarding the biometric visa regime, since the State Border Service operates within the limits of authority and decisions taken at the state level.

“But we are ready for this kind of control. The point is that if the decision will be made the Russian Federation citizens will use not just passports, but biometric passports. We are fully prepared to implement this decision. Because, firstly, we have been working with biometric documents since 2017, and secondly, since 2018 we have been working with biometric data,” a representative of the State Border Service, as quoted by the Ukrainian UNIAN news agency.
