The State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine (Ukravtodor) has announced the termination of the contract with the Chinese company Xinjiang Communications Construction Group Co Ltd, which was to overhaul the section of the M-12 highway in Khmelnytsky Oblast, due to systemic and significant violations of the contract terms.

According to Ukravtodor, this project was implemented at the cost of the World Bank (WB) with an independent FIDIC consulting engineer involved, who was responsible for works management and control.

“The decision to terminate the contract was agreed with the WB. As of termination of the contract [June 3 – ed.], the contractor performed only certain types of work that is less than 1% of the total amount of work. Whereas, the contractor was to perform 70% of the total amount of work by the same period,” the report says.

It is also reported that the USD 38.49 million contract with the Chinese company on overhaul of the M-12 highway was signed on October 10, 2017, with the planned deadline is autumn 2019.

In this regard, Ukravtodor instructed Khmelnytsky Oblavtodor to bring this section of the road to a good standard to ensure safe travel.

As The Journalist reported, Ukravtodor will overhaul Kyiv-Odesa road using cement-concrete technology.
