The United Nations (UN) is acquainted with a media report about Ukraine’s arrest of the Russian tanker, but so far have not independently assessed the circumstances of the incident and call on the parties to refrain from escalation, Ukrinform writes.

“We have seen media reports, but we cannot independently confirm the accuracy of the circumstances of the incident,” said the UN Secretary General’s Spokesman Farhan Haq on July 25, commenting on the detention of the Russian tanker in Izmail.

To Haq, the UN has previously expressed concern about the seizure of Russian Ukrainian sailors and ships by Russia. The organization calls on the parties to avoid any escalation.

“We remind that there’s a need to abstain from any actions or statements that may provoke the increase of tensions, with full respect for the rights and responsibilities of the parties according to the international law,” the Deputy Speaker of the UN Secretary General added.

As The Journalist reported, Ukraine’s SBU detained Russian NEYMA tanker.
