Ukrzaliznytsia reported that it will begin construction of a euro gauge railway (1,435 millimeters wide) from the Sknyliv rail station in Lviv to the Ukrainian-Polish border in 2020. This was announced by the Director for Strategic Development and Investment Policy at Ukrzaliznytsia Anton Sabolevsky, the press service of UZ said.

“The construction of a standard European gauge will allow a passenger to board a train in Lviv and get direct to European countries non-stop,” the statement said.

A number of companies, in particular Polish and Czech, have already become interested in the construction of the track.

Note that Ukraine and the EU have different rail tracks standards. This makes it difficult to carry out direct railway routs from Ukrainian cities to European ones. Such routs are carried out mainly on special wagons, which are transferred to the European-style track at the border.
