In Belarus Orthodox Church intends to receive autocephaly

First Hierarch of the Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (BABC), Archbishop Svyatoslav Logyn said that Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church supports provision of Tomos to Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and also plans to officially receive the status of autocephaly.

«We, of course, support this decision (decision of Patriarchate of Constantinople to grant UOC status of autocephalous – ed.). Our goal is also to legalize in Belarus and officially get the status of autocephaly. Historically, we have a centuries-old Orthodox tradition. In the last century, our church has taken real steps to get autocephaly and to be recognized», Radio Svoboda reports.

According to Archbishop Logyn, «church in Belarus began with the Kyiv Metropolis. Later it was the Kyiv-Litovsk metropolia with the center in Novogrudok – it was destroyed by Moscow church. And to this day Moscow is doing everything to prevent Ukrainian and Belarusian churches from receiving autocephaly», archbishop said.
