According to the federal Economy Minister Kris Peeters, the country suffered EUR 929 million damage in the result of a large-scale strike in Belgium. This was reported by flandersnews.be.

“According to preliminary estimates, the negative economic effect has already reached EUR 929 million. This is precisely the result of the action organized by three largest labor unions,” the report says.

In turn, Peeters noted that according to other experts, the damage amounted to EUR 1.8 billion.
It is noted that Belgium airspace was also closed due to the strike: all flights in Brussels airport were canceled and the airport in Charleroi was completely closed. In addition, public transport, including bus and tram lines, was virtually paralyzed in Belgium capital, as well as activities in the port of Antwerp goes down.
However, the private sector suffered the most because of strike.
