In the Republic of India, the oldest elephant in the world died at the age of 88, according to BBC.

The local authorities could not include the elephant Dakshayan in the Guinness Book of Records, but she became the official owner of the title "grandmother of elephants."
The animal was kept in captivity in the Indian state of Kerala, and for several decades participated in rituals and temple processions. But a few years ago she “retired”, ceasing to participate in public events.
In recent years, Dakshayan has become more difficult to move. In addition, pineapples and carrots were added to her diet in order to regulate metabolism.
On February 5, the elephant stopped eating and soon died.
