An eight-meter monument to the last Cossack ataman of Zaporizhzhian Sich Petro Kalnyshevsky, who was canonized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate, was opened in Kryvyi Rih. This is reported by the «1kr.ua ».
In the City Center District of Kryvyi Rih, near Scientific-Research Institute, the monument to Petro Kalnyshevsky was opened on the day of the Holy Trinity.
Many city citizens came with flowers, and some even with icons to join the grand opening of the monument to the last Ataman.
The author of the eight-meter monument is a member of the National Union of artists of Ukraine, sculptor Vladimir Tokar.
Petro Kalnyshevsky (20 June 1690 – 31 October 1803) was the last Koshovyi Otaman of the Zaporozhian Host, serving in 1762 and from 1765 to 1775.
He died at the age of 113 in the Solovetsky Monastery, Russian Empire, where he was imprisoned for the last 28 years of his life.
Was canonized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate in 2008. Later, he was canonized by Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in 2015, revered as the righteous Peter Kalnyshevsky.
