Over 2,275 refugees died in the Mediterranean in 2018, trying to get to Europe, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reported.
A particularly difficult situation on the route between Libya and Italy reported: according to the organization, one person died or went missing for every 14 people who crossed to Europe on this route in 2018, whereas in 2017 this figure was one dead refugee for every 37.
It is noted that in total, almost 140,000 refugees reached the EU through the Mediterranean Sea in 2018, which is the lowest figure in five years.
However, according to humanitarian organizations, the death toll is understated, because not all the bodies and boats can be found.
As The Journalist reported, nearly 800 protesters were detained in Venezuela.
