President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk.

“The fifth phone conversation between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel has just taken place. This extremely close and confidential personal contact between the two leaders is our most powerful political weapon to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” the Ukrainian diplomat said.

During a conversation, Zelensky and Merkel discussed the issues of the withdrawal of troops in Petrivske and Zolote.

The President praised the Chancellor’s strong support for peace in Ukraine, her consistent position on the issue of sanctions against the Russian Federation, and Germany’s practical assistance in implementing the reform policy.

“Merkel emphasized the invariable position of Germany in supporting Ukraine on the path to peace in Donbas,” the President’s Office emphasized.

The Chancellor also said that she uses the upcoming contacts with partners in the “Normandy format” to reach an agreement on the date of the summit.

Zelensky informed Merkel about the security situation in Donbas, as well as about the progress of restoration works of the bridge near the Stanytsia Luhanska village.
