The International Court of Justice will decide whether it has jurisdiction to consider Ukraine’s claim against the Russian Federation on violation of the conventions on combating the financing of terrorism and the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination by Russia by the end of this year.

This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Integration Olena Zerkal in The Hague after the first day of public hearings in the UN International Court of Justice, where Russia submitted its objections regarding the Court’s jurisdiction on the claim of Ukraine against Russia.

Zerkal said that the Russian side is trying to delay the process, because the court will need time to decide on the results of the hearings on the Russian objections against Ukraine’s claim, The Telegraph reports.

“This is until the end of the year. After that, the Russians will be given another 13 months to prepare a memorandum. All this is done in order to delay the process,” the diplomat said.

“At the end of this week, the court will decide whether it has jurisdiction over all the violations we have declared, and then will make a decision,” said Zerkal.

“We expect a decision regarding jurisdiction by the end of the year,” she added.

As The Journalist reported, President formed Ukraine’s delegation to participate in UN Tribunal for the Law of the Sea hearings.
