Kyiv resident after a holiday in Cyprus fell ill with West Nile fever

In Kyiv a case of suspicion of disease with West Nile fever was revealed, reportsPublic Health Center of Ministry of Health of Ukraine on Facebook.

«Symptoms of disease appeared after man has returned from a holiday in Cyprus. In September, he was hospitalized to Department of Infectious Resuscitation of the Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital in Kyiv with a preliminary diagnosis of «meningoencephalitis, fever of unknown origin». Serum analysis was sent to a virological reference laboratory. As a result, antibodies to the West Nile fever virus were detected, the research continues», report said.

It is noted that the analysis of Center for Public Health has not detected a risk for inhabitants of Ukraine. Specialists continue epidemiological surveillance.
Reference. West Nile fever is a dangerous viral disease that spreads through mosquito bites. In severe cases, it causes fever, inflammation of brain membranes, lymphadenopathy, exanthema and mucosal lesions.
