According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, in Volyn Oblast four patients with severe cardiovascular diseases will be provided with two-chamber cardioverter-defibrillators for free.
The cost of such device is more than UAH 170 thousand. Two-chambered cardioverter-defibrillators were purchased in the framework of a «Improving health care in the service of people» joint project of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the World Bank.
In July 27, the first free operation for implanting device under the skin was already done at the Volyn Oblast Clinical Hospital. As of today, August 8, a 56-year-old patient with a paraxis ventricular tachycardia was discharged from the hospital.
«This patient had heartbeat attacks of ventricular tachycardia with a frequency of 247 beats per minute with loss of consciousness. In fact, this is equivalent to death if he will not be undergoing defibrillation and urgent resuscitation measures will not be carried out. It [cardioverter-defibrillator] is installed under the skin and «reanimates» the patient. This, in fact, is a personal «first aid», which works around the clock. The device detects the presence of arrhythmia and treats with electric current,» - said Igor Biskup, the Head of the electrophysiological heart research department of the Volyn Oblast Clinical Hospital.
Depending on the number of operations, the device can serve 5-7 years, due it use a lithium battery.
